In a daily briefing on the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant held at the Seoul Government Complex today (4th), Deputy Director Park Gu-yeon of the Office for Government Policy Coordination said, “Secretary-General Grossi started today with the announcement of the comprehensive report of the IAEA Japan Polluted Water Monitoring Task Force (TF). “I’m going to visit Japan,” he said, “I’ll visit Korea right after that.”
Deputy Director Park said, “Secretary General Grossi will visit Korea and meet with Chairman Yu Kook-hee of Nuclear Safety and explain the contents of the comprehensive report to our side.”
Secretary-General Grossi’s visit to Korea is taken as a sign that the Korean government’s scientific and technological review of the discharge of contaminated water in Japan has reached its final stage.
Deputy Director Park Gu-yeon said that he thought it would be possible to introduce it to the public soon after comprehensively reflecting the contents of the review, but clearly drew a line on concerns that the release of contaminated water would lead to the relaxation of the ban on imports of marine products from Fukushima.
