Rafael Devers homers for fourth straight game in Boston win

BOSTON — Rafael Devers homered in his fourth game and Alex Verdugo homered for the first time in nearly two months as the Boston Red Sox thrashed the Oakland Athletics 10-1 on Wednesday.

Rookie Josh Winckowki got the first win of his major league career.

Boston has won 11 of its last 13 games, outscoring opponents by 65 runs to 27 combined during that stretch.

The A’s have lost 13 of their last 14 games.

Winckowski (1-1) was called up from the minors for his second major league start, pitching five scoreless innings. The 23-year-old right-hander allowed four hits, struck out three and walked one.

Devers hit a two-run homer in the second inning for 16 homers.

Verdugo had his first home run since April 16. The shot produced two runs in the sixth inning.

The Mexican finished with four RBIs, his highest number of the campaign.

James Kaprielian (0-4) allowed six runs on seven hits. He delivered six tickets in three and two-thirds chapters.

For the Athletics, the Dominicans Ramón Laureano 4-1, Luis Barrera 3-0. Panamanian Christian Bethancourt 4-0. The Venezuelan Elvis Andrus 4-0.

For the Red Sox, the Dominicans Devers 3-1 with three runs scored, Franchy Cordero 5-1. The Mexican Verdugo 5-3 with one scored and four produced.
