Le Plató d’Teatro already experienced its debut last October at the Teatro del Mercado in Zaragoza. The new company, promoted by the Aragonese actor and playwright Rafael Campos together with six actresses and professionals from the sector, then premiered with ‘La noche y las estrellas’ and this weekend it will stop at the Teatro de la Estación with ‘Mala’ , his second production. This last work has also been written by Campos. Originally conceived as a monologue, ‘Mala’ is a black comedy starring Cristina Seral and Clara Gallego.
«It is the story of a woman who has had a conflictive relationship with her mother and who has had to live with a sister who does everything well; basically it is the story of a woman with a soul burned with scars who refuses to be the victim of any injury although she suffered them since she was a child, ”Campos explains to this newspaper. The comedy, which serves a humor “out of the catalog”, will be uploaded this Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. to the tables of the Station, where it will return in April. Not in vain, Le Plató d’Teatro was born as a resident company of the Teatro de la Estación.
“I wrote it badly two or three years ago, but until now we had not performed it on stage,” explains Campos, who hopes to be able to tour with the work in other theaters and cities. “It can’t get worse because 2020 has been a year to forget, so let’s hope that the light will begin to be seen soon”, underlines the Aragonese actor and playwright.
The health crisis did not prevent Campos, Cristina Seral, Clara Gallego, Carmen Marín, Marissa Nolla, Claudia Siba and Blanca Sánchez from deciding to found a new theater company, an initiative that, however, acquires even more value in these times of pandemic . In the project there is a lot of courage and also a lot of taking chestnuts out of the fire. “Sometimes, if you don’t believe them yourself, opportunities don’t come and it’s a shame because in this city there are very good people without projects because of this situation,” Campos lamented at the company’s presentation in October, at the same time who recognized that the initiative has a lot of “self-employment.”
In ‘Mala’, Campos also talks about that, about the will to continue despite everything and in front of everything. In fact, Mala is Marta, a free and strong woman who expects nothing more than what she earns herself. «He does not ask for permission or ask for forgiveness. And he laughs at the world as a replica of the same world that denies him laughter », indicates Campos.
The theater has been denied laughter too many times. Even more so in the past 2020. Therefore, Campos only hopes that this 2021 will be better. “We have founded the company in uncertain times, but in this sector all are”, he acknowledges.
However, the first steps of Le Plató d’Teatro have not been entirely bad considering the current situation, since with ‘La noche y las estrellas’ they managed to fill all four functions last October, when the capacity restriction was also 50% (after a few days it went to 25%). “We are satisfied, there is no other option but to continue working because persistence is key in this profession”, Campos emphasizes.
The Zaragoza company was born with a clear vocation of permanence and already working on future projects. Campos received a few months ago the authorization of the writer Marta Sanz to adapt her novel Clavícula. “I already have the adaptation practically finished, so we hope to start rehearsing in April and release it in the fall,” indicates Campos, who points out that in this third production he would like to introduce other languages such as music and dance.
With these three works, Le Plató d’Teatro would have more than enough material to tour throughout this year if the pandemic allows it. “Hopefully the situation improves with vaccines because the sector is suffering a lot. Let’s see if the administrations also support by launching programming and things little by little return to normal, ”says Campos, who is a benchmark for the performing arts in Aragon.
The actor and playwright born in Ateca in 1954 has been, among other things, a voice and acting teacher at the Municipal School of Zaragoza for more than 20 years, founder of the Tranvía Teatro company with which he has directed more than 32 shows, director from the Teatro de la Estación or artistic director of the Teatro Principal and the Teatro de Mercado de Zaragoza.
