Urszula Radwańska (230th WTA) does not have a good record on clay courts. Until now, it had only 41 percent. victories (46-65). Not only that, the last time in the main tournament she won six years ago – during the event in Trnava. This year and four years ago she was victorious at meal, but only in the qualifying tournaments.

Only one set of Radwańska won
Radwańska returned to Paris after a six-year break. In 2015, in the first qualifying round Roland Garros she lost to the Taiwanese Latisha Chan. Now she faced 23-year-old Belgian Greetje Minnen (125th WTA), who was the absolute favorite of bookmakers (the odds for her victory were around 1.30, and for Radwańska nearly four zlotys).
The first set was very even. The first gem, which lasted over ten minutes, heralded great emotions. Radwańska broke in the third game already Belgian and took the lead 3: 1. Then, however, she lost three games in a row. The Polish woman, however, did a great job at the end of the set. From 5: 5, 30:30 at the opponent’s service, she won six points in a row. In this party, Radwanska had only six unforced mistakes, with 22 Minnen. The Polish woman had thirteen winners, and the Belgian one more.
But then it started raining again in Paris and the match was interrupted. Anyway, for the same reason, it was started later than planned. After nearly an hour’s break and resuming games Radwańska was not so precise anymore. After only five games, she made more mistakes (10) than in the entire first set. In the sixth game, the 30-year-old Polish woman made three double service errors and lost to the advantage. She could make up for the losses immediately, because she had two chances to break, but she missed them.
At the beginning of the third set, the players were again thwarted by rain and strong wind. The duel was interrupted again. Then the Belgian was leading 1-0, but it was Radwańska who had a chance to break in the second game. Tennis players however, they returned to the court again. Unfortunately for Polish fans, Minnen was already dominating. She gave up only one gem. The Polish woman could no longer find a way to compete. She did not play so boldly and made a lot of mistakes (14 and the rival 7). And the match ended with an unsuccessful shortcut.
In the next qualifying round, Minnen will play Ankita Raina (India, 182. WTA).
Maja Chwalińska (against Egyptian Mayar Sherif) and Kacper Żuk (against Slovenian Blaze Kavcic) will also start qualifying on Monday.
