Radosław Sikorski at the UN: Why is comparing Putin to Hitler risky?

The point of view depends on the point of sitting. In Poland, no one needs to be convinced to continue supporting the Ukrainians’ fight against Russia. However, the threat of PiS returning to power is quite real. That is why, in the domestic arena, Radosław Sikorski recently emphasized the need for Ukraine to settle accounts with the Volhynian massacre. For a country that is engaged in an existential struggle with Russia, this is certainly not the best moment to face its dark past. However, Donald Tusk’s team does not want to show any signs of weakness in an issue that is important to many Poles, especially in the south-eastern part of the country.

Radosław Sikorski corrects Donald Trump’s words: The West is winning this war

The context is different across the pond. Donald Trump, sensing the growing fatigue of some Americans with support for Ukraine, not only refused to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky during his several-day stay in the US, but even attacked him, calling him a shrewd trader. He also praised Russia’s ability to defeat both Napoleon and Hitler, forgetting Moscow’s long list of defeats.

Radosław Sikorski at the UN Security Council: This is a disgrace for Russia

– Permanent representatives of the Security Council should be guardians of peace, not wage war against the children of other nations – said Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski during the UN Security Council session.

In view of this, in numerous interviews in the American media, Radosław Sikorski focused on effectively reversing this narrative. In a country that won its own independence, liberating itself from the rule of the empire, he pointed out that Russia was waging nothing more than a colonial war. He also emphasized that the aggression that had been going on for almost three years had not turned out to be a series of successes for Putin. It was rather a battle of attrition, which the West, if it remained consistent, would win. In this way, the head of Polish diplomacy firmly entered into Kamala Harris’ strategy, exposing himself to tensions in relations with the US if Trump wins the White House in November. But he did it in the best possible way for Ukraine – and therefore for Poland.

The Third Reich committed a unique crime in the history of the world: the Holocaust.

The culmination of this diplomatic campaign was Sikorski’s five-minute rejoinder at the UN to the Russian ambassador’s tirade against Ukrainians, full of propaganda lies. The minister pointed out that if anyone was behaving like Nazis, it was not democratic Ukraine, but the Kremlin, which had resorted not only to bombing civilians, but also to kidnapping Ukrainian children with the intention of Russifying them. He also recalled the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, which preceded the outbreak of World War II.
