Journalists from the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty report that have confirmed the death of at least one sailor from the sunken cruiser Moscow.
The death of midshipman Ivan Vakhrushev was confirmed by his wife Varvara Vakhrusheva. On April 15, she posted on the Russian social network Odnoklassniki a photo of a man wearing a Russian navy uniform with midshipman’s epaulets and a comment that he was dying in the line of duty to save the ship. Vakhrushev, according to his widow, was 41 years old, a native of the village of Nichkino in the Sarapul region of Udmurtia.
In a correspondence with journalists in “VKontakte” Vakhrusheva says that her husband died in the sinking of the cruiser “Moscow”, she learned about it from command on 14 April. Her husband’s body has been found, but the circumstances of his death have not been reported. According to the woman 27 other members of the Moscow crew have disappeared.
There is no official confirmation of this information, Russian authorities say in case of accident – fireaccording to them this is an accident, no one was killed or missing, and the entire crew was successfully evacuated before the sinking of the ship due to a storm during its towing to Sevastopol.

Yesterday the Russian Ministry of War also distributed a video of a meeting with the ship’s crew – Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea Fleet, and the command of the Black Sea Fleet meet with sailors built on a square. The video was published on the channel of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Telegram and on the website of the TV channel “Zvezda”. Evmenov says the cruiser’s traditions will be carefully preserved and continued, officers and midshipmen will continue to serve in the Navy, and conscripts will be released and included in the military register. It is not reported whether the recruits took part in hostilities with Ukraine.

The version of the causes of the accident is also radically different from Russia’s official position. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, “Moscow” was hit by Neptune missiles, and the fire was a consequence of them.
