For more than three decades, Bernhard Schär was one of the most distinctive voices on Swiss Radio SRF. He will retire at the end of April. Here he tells his best stories from a life with Roger Federer, Hans Jucker, Martina Hingis and the ski circus.

Bernhard Schär grew up in Herzogenbuchsee in the canton of Bern, studied mathematics and geography, and then worked as a teacher in Oberaargau for more than ten years. The almost 65-year-old, who now lives with his family in Küngoldingen in Aargau, is better known for his distinctive voice. For more than 33 years he reported on the Olympic Games, ski races and tennis Grand Slam tournaments for Radio SRF. He says: “I’m still motivated to drive through the Gubrist today as I was on my first day at work. Every broadcast is a joy.
