Radio Continental Corrientes FM 97.3 MHz » Peris. “There are no vaccines against dengue or short-term alternatives”

Ricardo Peris, vice president of the Corrientes College of Pharmacy, expressed in Radio Nord their concern regarding the lack of supply of dengue vaccines and the prospects for a solution.

Ricardo Peris (pharmacy) Topic: fear due to lack of stocks of dengue vaccine

As Peris explained, the drugstores have requested supplies from the production laboratory, Takeda, without receiving a favorable response and without expecting to receive new doses during the rest of the year.

“Unfortunately, we are still out of stock of dengue vaccine, and there seems to be no solution in the short term. Some areas bought the few that entered the country, and now all that is left is to encourage the practice of retransmission as the main prevention measure,” said Peris.

The situation is made worse by the lack of alternatives, as only one laboratory produces this vaccine. Peris pointed out that the high price also represents an obstacle for patients. “In November 2023, the vaccine entered the country for 37,000 pesos, and today its value is 96,000 pesos. This shows the effect of having one manufacturer in the market, which leaves us with no options,” said the vice-president of the College of Pharmacy.

In addition, Peris pointed out that some patients had not been able to complete the vaccination schedule due to missing doses. Given this problem, he asked to consider the possibility of introducing other options and warned that dengue is “here to stay,” which is why a long-term solution is needed.
