Radio and Television Commission to Consider Suspending Russian TV in Lithuania Business

This was announced by Ričardas Slapšys, Vice-Chairman of the Commission.

It is planned to consider suspending the free reception of the TV programs Planeta RTR and Rossija 24.

LRTK Chairman Rimantas Bagdzevičius told BNS on Thursday that the monitoring group of the commission’s administration and lawyers had to collect data on the possibilities to stop the broadcasting of the mentioned channels in Lithuania.

Lithuania has imposed maximum one-year retransmission restrictions on some Russian television stations due to incitement to war and hatred.

RTR Planeta retransmissions were banned in 2015 and 2016 due to incitement to war and hatred.

The Law on Public Information stipulates that incitement to war and national hatred is classified as prohibited information, and propaganda for war is prohibited by the Constitution.

After Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, the Latvian National Electronic Media Council has banned the retransmission of Russian television channels Rossija and Rossija 24 in the country.

The ban is valid for five years for Rossija, four years for Rossija 24 and three years for TV Centr International.
