Radio 538 suddenly replaces DJ Frank Dane with Wietze de Jager in the morning

Radio 538 will stop with the morning show of program maker Frank Dane after the turn of the year. The commercial radio station has decided to put Wietze de Jager and Klaas van der Eerden on the weekday morning from 3 January.

Data to us in 2019 the morning show about DJ Edwin Evers. who presented for 21 years the morning program of 538, which was the best-listened morning show in the Netherlands until the end.

Since Dane took over the morning’s timeslot, the listening numbers of 538 have been falling. In October last year, competitors Mattie & Marieke from Qmusic aspired to him over in the proportion of listeners aged 20-49.

Great achievement

Radio 538 announces Dane’s departure a few days before the change in programming. It is unclear what he will do next.

“At the end of November we made a start on adjusting our programming and the new morning show is the next step,” writes channel manager Coco Hermans in a press release. “We assume that we will continue to work with Frank and his team at 538 in the future.”

Weekend program

Successor Wietze de Jager can be heard on the Friday evenings of Radio 538 since 2018. He also made a daily lunch program during the weekend for almost two years. De Jager is also the permanent replacement for Dane. Klaas van der Eerden, who will join in the morning, has also recently been part of De Jager’s weekend program.

Because De Jager is now moving on to the morning of Radio 538, he is diametrically opposed to his former colleague Mattie Valk. Together they made until 2017 the morning program on Qmusic.

When De Jager and Valk were talking about a switch to Sky Radio, Valk . started to doubt and signed behind De Jager’s back for a new contract with Qmusic, where he now makes the morning show with Marieke Elsinga.
