In his apartment in Montluçon, Alain Lombard tells the story of Radio 3 (or Radio Allier) with an energy similar to that which he used forty years earlier to broadcast on the airwaves.
Forty years ago, the radio discovered freedom
“I was one of the first to start in Montluçon, in 1981,” he emphasizes, quite proudly. At the back of his photography store, on rue Ampère, he had set up a studio with a mixer, turntables, and set up an antenna on the very roof of the shop.

Acrobatics on a pylon
In 1984, a pylon of nearly 30 meters, erected in Huriel, then broadcast the radio over a large part of the Allier. Supporting photos, he shows his acrobatics to climb on the antenna, several tens of meters above the ground. “It was a lot of improvisation, we didn’t know anything about the radio and we discovered everything. “

The approach was not intended to be commercial or political, even if the publicity was accepted and the elected officials were not reluctant to come to the studio. “I lost more money than I won. At 80%, I was the one who paid everything with my salary. We were the pioneers but we did not reap the benefits, ”he says.

On the programs of the time, which Alain has kept, we discover “loose music” slots, a direct at the Montluçon fair or dedications. “It was a way to fill his life in an original way and to give pleasure to people by making them discover the radio. The quality was not always there and that was all the charm of the adventure. “

A decade on the air
The radio had at one time several dozen volunteers, before running out of steam and disappearing at the end of the 1980s.
Today a professional host on the Montluçonnaise radio station RJFM, Fabrice Anioux has set foot on Radio 3:
I was only 13 or 14 years old and had responded to a call for an animator. I came by bike from Quinssaines for a hut on Wednesdays from 11 am to noon, you had to blame!

Montluçon knew up to six or seven local radio stations, after the release of FM: Radio 93 (which preceded RJFM), Radio frequency Néris, Radio Tartasse, Radio Savigny Verneix, RMB, or even Radio Caroline.
