Radical mosques in Austria must close

Austrian mosques where hatred is preached must be closed. Minister Raab of Integration and Minister Nehammer of the Interior have announced this.

The decision is a response to last Monday’s terrorist attack in Vienna. A Muslim extremist then opened fire in the center of the Austrian capital. Four people were killed and more than twenty were injured.

Raab and Nehammer have informed the representative of the Muslim community in Austria of the decision. The mosques in question must be closed and their administrations legally dissolved. More details will be announced at a press conference later this afternoon.

House searches in Austria and Germany

The attack caused panic in the center of Vienna on Monday, also because it was taken into account that there were several perpetrators. Later, investigation revealed that the perpetrator, a 20-year-old radicalized Muslim, acted alone. IS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In recent days, sixteen people were arrested who allegedly had contact with the perpetrator. Their role is now being investigated. Eight of them have been convicted before, including for terrorism. Searches have been carried out in several cities, including Germany.
