length of time If you want to donate blood, you should take an hour. This time is needed for the entire blood donation process and for the subsequent rest phase.
Deadline During the pandemic you can donate blood spontaneously, but it is better to book an appointment in advance.
agreement After registering, for which a 3G proof must be presented, the donors must fill out a questionnaire about their health, then doctors measure the body temperature and hemoglobin levels of the donors. The questionnaire is then discussed with a doctor, and the donor is given the opportunity to make another conscious decision whether he or she would like to release his blood for donation. There is always the option to withdraw from the donation during the entire registration process.
Withdrawal Then 500 milliliters of blood are drawn from each donor. Afterwards there is a rest phase and a culinary strengthening, in the pandemic in the form of packed lunches. An FFP2 mask is worn during the blood donation.

“We are fully booked today. There are 110 registrations, so all the dates have been taken. But we also have a free bed for spontaneous donors, ”says Dieter Neubauer. He checked the 3G evidence at the entrance and distributed FFP2 masks to the donors who were only protected with a medical mask. “The registration system streamlines the blood donation and prevents too many people from being in the community center at the same time. FFP2 masks are important today. We all want to protect ourselves as well as possible. ”The vast majority of all blood donors showed a vaccination certificate as 3G proof. Only a few identified themselves with a negative test result or proof of recovery. “Most of them have been vaccinated and that’s nice to see,” says the DRK chairman.

The appointments for the blood donation, which was carried out with eight donor beds, were assigned every 15 minutes. Ten helpers from the local DRK association were on site to take care of the registration and the handing out of the packed lunches. They ensure that the doctors and their assistants can work and provide information within a smoothly functioning framework. Most of the 110 donors were known donors on Tuesday, but there were also a few new donors in 2021. “So far in the pandemic, we have had the experience that people want to donate and get involved. Here at the Wupper we have very loyal donors who know each other well, ”says Dieter Neubauer.

One of them is Sonja Riese. The blood donation on Tuesday was her 27th blood donation. “I’ve been going to donate blood for a long time because I think it’s important to help other people who need blood. I only took a break when my kids were little, ”she says. She also comes regularly to donate blood during the corona pandemic. She is not afraid of being infected with the corona virus. “The gaps are large here and everything is well organized. I don’t have any concerns. ”Sonja Riese thinks it’s a shame that due to the pandemic, there is no social get-together after the blood donation. After the rest period, the donors receive a packed lunch to strengthen themselves. Normally, the DRK provides the blood donors on site with coffee and a warm meal.

The blood donation in the community center on Siedlungsweg works well because the rooms are large and barrier-free. “The community center is the right location for donating blood. We are very satisfied, ”says Dieter Neubauer. As soon as the community center is rebuilt, the local association has to temporarily move to the primary school on the Brede to donate blood. The next blood donation will be organized in the Wupper villages on March 22nd from 4pm to 8pm. The location will be announced in good time.
