/ world today news/ The presidential candidate General Rumen Radev, supported by the BSP, is the winner of the first round of the elections for the head of state. Second was the candidate of the ruling party GERB Tsetska Tsacheva.
The data from the exit poll show that General Radev received 24.8% and Tsacheva – 23.5%.
The two are going to a runoff, which will take place on November 13.
They were followed by Krasimir Karakachanov, Veselin Mareshki, Traicho Traikov and Plamen Oresharski.
No sociological agency predicted the result, in which General Radev overtook Tsacheva in the first round. All agencies gave a lead for the GERB candidate, which ranged from 3% to 7%.
General Rumen Radev stated after voting that the change is urgent and depends on all Bulgarians. “I believe that the energy I felt at my meetings in the country will soon materialize,” he stressed. According to Radev, the time of televised sermons is over, people will take democracy into their own hands because it belongs to them.
The candidate of the ruling party, Tsetska Tsacheva, exercised her right to vote in the city of Pleven. “I voted for more justice in Bulgarian society, for working institutions, for preserved national traditions, for defending the national interest,” she pointed out.
The first round of the presidential elections was held with a high turnout. As of 7:00 p.m., 44.83% of eligible voters had voted, the Central Election Commission announced.
