President Rumen Radev announced that this time there are several candidates from the constitutional list for acting prime minister. He has more talks with them and only then will he announce the name of the chosen one. He also explained why the current Prime Minister was not present – because not only he is willing to continue ruling, but unlike last time, when no one but Dimitar Glavchev wanted the position, now there are several candidates.
“Mr. Glavchev is not here because the situation is a little different than last time. Now it’s not just him, we have other people who have expressed their readiness. I do not mention names, I do not want to throw people into the public space,” the head of state told the representatives of the parliamentary parties during the consultations. The entire 40-minute meeting was conducted live in front of the media.
“If we go to the date of October 20, the oath of the acting prime minister should be on August 20,” reminded Rumen Radev, also referring to the decision of the National Assembly to go on vacation for two weeks until August 31.
GERB, PP-DB, “Vazrazhdane”, DPS, BSP and ITN did not intervene with advice on who should be appointed acting prime minister, pointing out that this is within the powers of the president. The PP-DB only demanded that the interior minister Kalin Stoyanov be replaced, because they do not trust him in view of the fairness of the vote, and the BSP demanded that the personality of the acting prime minister be as far away from the parties as possible.
“Vazrazhdane” stated that in the “home book” there is not a single person suitable for the position of prime minister and all of them are connected in some way to the Peevski-Borisov axis, to which Yordan Tsonev reacted with an appeal to Rumen Radev not to comment on the name of the leader of the DPS, as the topic of the consultations is different. Tsonev pointed out that frank untruths were being spoken about Peevski and called on Radev not to allow it. “I will only point out that Peevski has nothing to do with the home book, and I can prove that,” said the DPS deputy. Radev accepted the remark.
So far, three people from the constitutional list have expressed their agreement in principle to be elected as acting prime minister.
The current caretaker prime minister, Dimitar Glavchev, expressed his readiness to continue governing, and according to unconfirmed information, the deputy governor of the BNB, Petar Chobanov, and Gorica Grancharova, deputy chairman of the Audit Chamber, gave their consent.
Before that, the president announced that he would hear again from all the potential candidates for caretaker prime minister, with whom he spoke before the appointment of the current caretaker cabinet and who refused with the only exception – Dimitar Glavchev, who took an unpaid leave from the Audit Chamber to head The Council of Ministers.
Rumen Radev also met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raya Nazaryan, from whom he was refused. After the meeting, Nazaryan stated that he does not intend to become acting prime minister, because bright political figures should not be appointed to this post. According to her, all parties should have an equal chance in the upcoming elections and a party candidate should not be responsible for their conduct.
