Radev: Parliament dissolved itself out of fear – Politics – Bulgaria – NOVA News

The resistance to the fight against corruption in Bulgaria is huge. Effective laws and judicial reform are needed. This was stated by President Rumen Radev in his first comment after the American Finance Ministry included the names of five more Bulgarians on the “Magnitsky” sanctions list on Friday.

“The resistance to the fight against corruption in Bulgaria is huge. There is no one else to do our work for us. Effective anti-corruption laws are needed. This fight should not be just pre-election talk”, declared Radev and called: “The next parliament should commit to an effective judicial reform, so that no more Bulgarians are included in the “Magnitsky” list.

He defined the second “Magnitsky” list as a “strong political signal to us” and said that our country accepts it “as providing help from a partner”. The president also said that the expansion of the list with more names of Bulgarians will affect the elections.

Radev commented on his impeachment request by former MPs as follows: “Let the parties of the war win the elections, form a government and take responsibility for the decision to give the Bulgarian army weapons to Ukraine. People who do not understand military affairs are doing their best to drag us into escalation processes that they cannot control. We see that the war has already spiraled into a phase of total mutual exhaustion, and it is involving us all. My position is clear and I am categorically against sending armaments from the reserves of the Bulgarian army to the zone of military operations”.

“Peace can only be achieved with an immediate ceasefire and dialogue,” added the head of state.

He pointed out that the interim government has implemented the decision of the 48th National Assembly to send military aid to Ukraine. “It is very clearly written there that subsequent aid must be tailored to the Bulgarian capabilities,” said Radev.

“Regarding this decision and the appeals of former people’s representatives, who constantly repeat that they express the will of the Bulgarian people – let’s not forget that they completely missed the expectations and hopes of the Bulgarians. The 48th NA is the parliament that dissolved itself out of fear. For fear of forming a government and taking responsibility for the management of the country at a difficult time”, Radev also said.

In his words, it was the 48th National Assembly that sabotaged the justice reform, our European integration and did not adopt the laws proposed by the interim government, “which eased and opened our way to Schengen and the Eurozone”.

He accused deputies from the last parliament of having taken “fatal decisions without any analysis and risk assessment and of having rejected the program proposed by the interim government for the real modernization of the Bulgarian army”.
