AT Koprivshtitsa women know that a high head is expensive, but only with a straight back can one see clearly, move forward with dignity and can write a Bloody Letter to open the door to the resurrection of Bulgaria.
This was said by President Rumen Radev in his speech on the occasion of the solemn celebration of the 146th anniversary of the April Uprising in Koprivshtitsa.
Radev: Many politicians have not risked their lives, but they put the lives of others at risk
Encouraged by its cultural and spiritual rise, the city gave Bulgaria the fiery leaders of the April Epic Todor Kableshkov and Georgi Benkovski. Their audacity stabbed the rusty Bulgarian knife into the heart of the rotten Ottoman Empire and showed the world that Bulgarians reject slavery and the dawn of Bulgarian freedom is rising, the head of state said.
After the April Uprising, there are no monuments to military victories left, but logs and ossuaries. This is an uprising of conscious self-sacrifice in the name of freedom, of crazy heads, who have become the eternal inspiration of a new Bulgaria. They left behind that bloody trail, without which we would not have been able to climb the fateful historical height, leading to the cherished Shipka peak. Since then we have been separated by a century and a half, several wars, ups and downs, as well as unfulfilled ideals, but the example for generations remains, Rumen Radev said in his speech.

According to him, the court of time has determined the greatness and glory of the Bulgarian apostles of freedom, whose names will remain in time.
Let us never forget these strong and unadulterated Bulgarians, because their patriotism, self-sacrificing and enlightened, is a standard, especially today.

Rumen Radev: Our biggest capital is the people
On the occasion of the anniversary, a solemn fireworks inspection took place on April 20 in the city, and the head of state accepted the honorary order.
The celebration was attended by the Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov, MPs, representatives of local authorities and citizens.
