AMD Radeon RX 7950 XT can be described as a probable future hi-end with a chip or rather a double chip Navi 31 generation RDNA 3. This can be counted on, but it is also not the most important data, because we may not care how to name and what AMD will use for it. Performance is important, and then of course consumption and price.
Greymon55 is a well-known leaker who usually gives true information about AMD products, so what does he say about the Radeon RX 7950 XT? It is supposed to be a card with a total of 15360 Stream processors, which will take up to 500 W (TBP) and its GPU will be clocked at 2.5 GHz. These are already respectable specifications, and today it must also be emphasized that this is not a joke. –

For comparison, today’s hi-end in the form of Radeon RX 6900 XT offers a total of 5120 Stream processors in 80 CUs, which is fully equipped with the Navi 21 chip, so if the Navi 31 is to offer exactly three times as many, it is quite clear that despite the expected use of 5nm process (TSMC N5) will be at least two chips, respectively GCD (Graphics Core Die), which will participate in it.
In addition to the two GCDs, there should be another smaller one, namely MCD (Multi-Cache Die), which will probably serve as an intermediary equipped with a total of 512 MB of Infinity Cache memory. Greymon55 states that it will be specifically a “3D Infinity Cache”, which means that this MCD will be mounted on or under both GCDs, similar to the V-Cache in the case of Milan-X or Ryzen 7 5800X3D. This would mean that the GCDs would not be interconnected within the substrate board as would the chipsets and I / O cores in today’s AMD processors, but rather it could be similar to EMIB technology, ie a bridge partially overlapping the two interconnected chips. Of course, this is only an estimate.
Finally, we learn from Greymon about 32 GB of GDDR6 memory, which should have only a 256-bit interface, but already 21 Gb / s per pin. Such memories are really on the way, so in the case of these specifications they offer 672 GB / s, which is not much and is a value somewhere between the throughput of RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 cards. The Infinity Cache calculates and compensates for the weaker memory throughput, which should have four times the capacity of today’s Navi 21 (and who knows what throughput).
And what about the price? It’s very premature to talk about that, but it’s clear that $ 1,000 like the RX 6900 XT won’t. We will have two large 5nm chips, the additional cost will be the chip with Infinity Cache and the enclosure itself. We will probably be able to talk about a still very decent price, if such a card has a price tag of $ 2,000.
