Radeon RX 7900 XT prices have in some places approached GeForce RTX 4070 Ti cards. The promise of more affordable GPUs in the future?
When AMD’s next-generation graphics hit the market in December, there was an oddity associated with it that the $999 top model Radeon RX 7900 XTX wasn’t too far off in price from the second slower RX 7900 XT variant which hit the market at $899. And the XT model was not very advantageous because of that. But it looks like the situation is improving due to competitive pressures and the Radeon RX 7900 XT is gradually getting lower and lower, so it could now be a direct alternative to the RTX 4070 Ti cards.
So far, AMD still officially has the recommended price of the Radeon RX 7900 XT model at the original $899, but the price of some versions on the free market has been falling below this limit for a while. So far, it has gone the farthest with the Phantom Gaming OC card from ASRock. American store Newegg is now selling it for just $830, a drop of almost 8% from the official price. Before this price cut, the card was $880.
This is not a completely unique case. As VideoCardz points out, the XFX (Speedster Merc 310 Black) card can also be had for $850 with smaller discounts in the US. Hopefully, this movement will continue with discounts on other brands and higher percentages.
Nvidia’s competing model, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, has an official price of just $799, so if such a discount were to become widespread, the Radeon RX 7900 XT would be a direct competitor or price alternative to this Nvidia model. This AMD card is generally more powerful than the RTX 4070 Ti, but it also has the advantage of significantly more memory (20 GB instead of just 12 GB).
Our discounts are smaller, but they do exist
US prices will not help us directly, so we have to hope that this also affects the global market at the same time. That price of $830 would, after taking into account 21% VAT and the current exchange rate, correspond to roughly 22,500 CZK or 951 € in our country, compared to the recommended amount, which now works out to 24,400 CZK / 1,031 €.
Currently, price search engines can find the cheapest Radeon RX 7900 XT in the Czech Republic for up to 23,500 CZK (reference design cards from Sapphire and XFX in TSBohemia and CZC stores), so we are halfway there and instead of a 2,000 discount, it is only half. In Slovakia, we found a much lower price (€914 at the smaller TvojPC store), but it is probably more of an exception and the delivery speed is not clear. But it would be nice if it was a swallow showing where the prices will go in the coming months.
