One big change awaits the Fortuna League from the new season. Radek Příhoda will no longer be the chairman of the FAČR referees’ commission. The former referee, who tried to change conditions in Czech football, resigned from his position.
In June 2021, Radek Příhoda became the new head of the referees’ commission. This was a big step, as a new model was installed, which relied on the independence of the commission from the influence of clubs, leagues or associations.
Now, however, the former judge is retiring from his position. He submitted his resignation, which was accepted. The chairman of the FAČR, Petr Fousek, announced that Příhoda had submitted his resignation once before, but the head of the union did not accept it then.
In the announcement on the official website FACR Fousek also announced the name of the candidate who should replace Příhoda: “Given that the regular pre-league seminar of referees of professional competitions will take place next week with the participation of UEFA representatives and the Fortuna liga and F:NL start on July 22, Libor Kovařík is the logical candidate for the management of FAČR.”
Until now, Kovařík has been acting in the role of vice-chairman of the commission. Fousek is convinced that he has the right qualities for the position of chairman, while at the same time he will ensure continuity and build on the work of Příhoda.
“We will now process the matter in accordance with the contract between the FAČR and the LFA, completed by the approval of the FAČR Executive Committee,” added Fousek.
Příhoda also attached his statement to the resignation. He praises that the commission under his leadership managed to set changes that were in line with the concept of the association’s management.
“It was an extremely exhausting life stage for me. I devoted a lot of energy to the work of leading the committee and setting up changes. In recent weeks, I have evaluated everything for myself, saying that I want to slow down. This position entails enormous work commitment, I tried to give it my best. In addition, the function also brought with it unpleasant experiences in the form of various anonymous reports and other scams.” says Příhoda.
Příhoda received thanks from Fouska on behalf of the entire FAČR, he will continue to work on the panel of UEFA delegates and as a delegate in the league.
