RADAR TORMENTA MALLORCA | Mallorca, on orange alert for hurricane-force winds and torrential rains

The weather situation will be especially complicated this Wednesday in the Balearic Islands. The State Meteorological Agency maintains the orange alert activated throughout the archipelago for storms and rain that, at times, could accumulate up to 90 liters per square meter in an hour. In addition, strong rains are expected gusts of wind on all the islands that could be hurricanes at some points, exceeding 120 kilometers per hour.

Yesterday, Mallorca was hit by storms and very heavy rain, leaving up to 100 litres per square metre in areas such as Banyalbufar and Estellencs. The bad weather also caused the closure of the road between Porreres and Felantix, as well as intermittent road closures due to flooding and falling branches on roads in the Serra de Tramuntana.

However, the worst of this storm is expected today. For this reason, the General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior has activated operational situation 1 of the Special Civil Protection Plan against Flood Risk in the Autonomous Community (Inunbal), as well as IG1 of the Special Plan to address the risk of adverse weather events (Meteobal) on all the islands, given the forecast of heavy rain and storms starting this afternoon.

Shelters and camping areas closed

Given this situation, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment has reported that the camping areas of Es Pixarells, sa Font Coberta and Marjanor, as well as all the shelters managed by Ibanat in Mallorca will be closed until Thursday.

Yellow alert

The meteorological instability will continue, at least until tomorrow. During the early hours of Thursday, storms are expected that could be locally strong in Menorca and in the north of Mallorca, which will remain on yellow alert until midday.

The situation will improve on Fridaywith predominantly partly cloudy skies with some daytime clouds and a low probability of occasional and isolated precipitation. Temperatures will rise, with highs exceeding 30 degrees.
