Racing lost in Brazil in the Sudamericana
The “Academia” lost the first leg of the quarter-finals in Curitiba by 1-0.
Racing lost to Athletico Paranaense in a match corresponding to the first leg of the 2024 Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals, which was played at the Arena do Baixada stadium.
The Brazilian team won 1-0, with a goal from midfielder Joao Cruz.
In the 39th minute, Uruguayan forward Agustín Canobbio received the ball on the left and assisted substitute Joao Cruz, who finished with a great volley from the edge of the area. The ball entered with great force in the left post of goalkeeper Gabriel Arias, who could do nothing.
The second half was characterized by a lot of excitement but few chances to score. Both goalkeepers stood out, with two saves at the near post. The first of them was Arias, who stopped a powerful shot from Canobbio, and just a minute later the young Mycael did the same, stopping a shot from forward Roger Martínez.
With this result, Racing will have to come back in the return match, in which they will host Paranaense at the Presidente Perón stadium, next Thursday, September 26 at 9:30 p.m. (Argentine time).
