Get off on the right foot! At the end of a 2022-2023 campaign of very good quality and passed not far from a climb (2nd in its group), the blood and gold reserve attacks this new exercise with appetite. Vincent Carlier and his staff will rely on a workforce largely made up of young shoots trained at La Gaillette. A challenge for a whole group, especially for those players in full progression and in search of experience.
This start to the championship against the neighbor Valencia – who also bet on the youth – is a good start to confirm the good things seen during the preparation (2 wins, 3 draws and a defeat). In a system similar to that of the first team (3-4-2-1), the Lensois coach opted for a central hinge made up of three defenders under 20 with Ryan Georges, Marceau Apperry and Souleymane Sagnan. Further up the field, two well-known heads (Mamadou Camara and captain Fodé Sylla) form the double pivot in the midfield, supported by Simon Ramet and Kaïs Benabdelouahed in the corridors. On the attacking front, Anthony Bermont and Nolan Bonte come to support the first appearance of the Colombian international and pro squad member, Oscar Cortés.
It is also the Colombian international who will put Racing back on track after the opening of the early score for the locals (1-0 after 3 minutes). On penalty, the number 9 of the day takes the goalkeeper on the wrong foot and allows the Sang et Or to pick up the score (1-1). Active offensively with many situations in front of goal, the Artésiens nevertheless leave space for their opponent who does not hesitate on the counter-attack phases and doubles the bet at the half-hour mark (2-1). Fortunately, Vincent Carlier’s men built on their domination and equalized again on a goal by Fodé Sylla (2-2). Back to back at the end of this first act, the two formations offer a rhythmic part.
If the first 45 minutes were in favor of the RCL, the second act is more balanced. While the meeting seemed to be heading for a consistent draw, the VAFC provoked a penalty in the dying moments and transformed it to clinch victory (3-2).
A frustrating final as the artesian reserve was dominant at times. He will not have missed much but Fodé Sylla’s teammates leave Béfroi with a setback for this first day of the championship. Next meeting next Saturday at 5 p.m. against Compiègne.
