Racial slurs against players during matches; Indian team complains to match referee; BCCI expresses dissatisfaction

MELBOURNE: Indian team members have been accused of racially abusing them during a tour of Australia. During the third Test, the Indian players were racially abused by the spectators. The Indian team lodged a complaint with the match referee.

Jaspreet Boomra and Mohammad Siraj were insulted by the Australian audience. It is reported that some of the alcoholics made racist remarks. The incident drew the attention of ICC officials and security officials and the BCCI expressed its displeasure.

Racial abuse is in no way acceptable. The BCCI has asked the ICC and Cricket Australia to respond to the incident. After the incident, the players brought the matter to the notice of Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane. A similar incident was reported on the second and third day of the Sydney Test.
