LONDON – The race sent mission to the Moon proclaimed by a number of countries to hunt for valuable materials. Russia, the United States (US), China and India have landed their missions in Moon and soon followed by South Korea and Japan.
It is estimated that there will be more than 400 missions to the Moon planned between 2022 and 2032. This number is up from the previous estimate of around 250 missions in the same period. Even the US and China are trying to send human missions to the Moon.
Rather than simply achieving national pride and building technological advantage, countries such as China, Russia, India and the US are interested in the valuable resources on the Moon. They think about how these resources can be obtained because they are very valuable.
The following are 3 materials that are being hunted by a number of countries so that they are competing to send missions to the Moon, summarized from the Daily Mail page, Wednesday (6/9/2023).
1. Air
For starters, thanks to an analysis conducted by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), experts estimate the moon’s poles contain more than 600 billion kilograms of water ice. That’s enough to fill at least 240,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
That means having access to water in space would be invaluable. Not only for astronauts to drink and wash, but also to transport them to distant planets in the solar system.
The water molecule H20, consisting of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, has the liquid oxygen and hydrogen needed to make rocket fuel. This rocket fuel could then be used to propel human spacecraft from the moon to Mars and beyond.
