Jakarta –
Goal Erik Lamela against Arsenal managed to win Puskas Award 2021. This is the second year in a row that the best goals have come in Tottenham Hotspur matches.
Lamela has been playing for Sevilla since the summer of 2021. Although he is no longer in North London, his goal against Arsenal on March 14, 2021, won this year’s Puskas Award.
He hit it with a rabona shot to put Tottenham 1-0 up, but ended up losing 1-2 and Lamela was shown a red card.
“To be honest, I’ve never practiced that in training. It’s something that comes in one second. Yes, just from the mind. Just like you do,” Lamela said in a virtual statement at the FIFA awards ceremony.
Lamela beat two competitors, namely Patrik Schick’s goal, which was scored at Euro 2020. The striker from the Czech Republic managed to tear the Scotland goal from the middle of the field on June 14, 2021.
Schick’s goal against David Marshall was the furthest since Euro 1980. The goal was recorded within 45.5 meters.
Finally, there was Mehdi Taremi’s goal in the Chelsea vs Porto duel on April 13, 2021. Mehdi, who plays for Porto, scored a goal through an overhead kick.
Last year, Tottenham’s Son Heung-min won the Puskas Award. The South Korean player tore the Burnley goal through a solo-run.
