Liverpool are looking to strengthen their midfield by hijacking Manchester United’s deal for long-term target Adrien Rabiot.
New Reds manager Arne Slot has yet to bring a new signing into the squad since his arrival in the summer, but that could change. According to The Mirror, Rabiot could move to Merseyside on a free transfer.
The Reds’ rivals Manchester United have long been interested in the former Juventus midfielder, and after his contract expired in the summer, he is now without a club and is available to sign. He joined Juventus in 2019 and has been a reliable figure in their midfield. He could add some much-needed cover to Liverpool’s squad, with that area in particular looking thin following Thiago’s retirement.
Rabiot at the Reds?
Rabiot has only ever moved on free transfers, joining Juventus from PSG in 2019. Since arriving in Italy, he has proven himself as a creative and goalscoring midfielder, netting 13 times in the last two league campaigns.
Liverpool’s new style of play is expected to be more possession-oriented, which is different from what Jurgen Klopp expected from his players. Rabiot would help implement this new philosophy and could push Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister to new heights.
