According to the health portfolio, this day will be held within the framework of World Rabies Day, which is commemorated on September 28. For this year everything focuses on the motto All for one, one health for all.
In compliance with what is established by the Pan American Health Organization, the actions are developed with the objective of raising awareness, preventing and promoting the fight against this disease that affects animals and even people.
Actions
The MSPAS has made available to the Guatemalan population the different health centers where the rabies vaccine can be administered to their pets. This applies to animals from one month old.
According to health authorities, in the country there are vaccines available for more than 3.5 million dogs and approximately 200 thousand cats. In addition, Salud guarantees that these are of good quality and can be purchased by the population for free.
world commemoration
The date was recognized by the World Health Organization and established by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control. This is for the purpose of remembering the work of the French scientist Louis Pasteur, who with his research created the rabies vaccine.
Given this, the WHO/PAHO highlights the importance of acquiring the vaccine as the best measure to prevent the disease. According to data, cases of rabies have been reduced in the last five years. In the case of Guatemala, the country has six consecutive years of not presenting cases.
