North Central Timor: The rabies outbreak has spread from South Central Timor Regency to North Central Timor, East Nusa Tenggara resulting in one person dying. The victim died, Antonia Olin, 62, on Tuesday, November 7 at 21.30 WITA while being treated at the Kefamenanu Regional General Hospital (RSUD), capital of North Central Timor.
“The patient died half an hour ago,” said Head of North Central Timor Health, Robert Tjuenfin when contacted.
Antonia Olin comes from Lemon Village, West Miomafo District, was bitten by a dog in September 2023, and has been given treatment according to procedures for treating victims of rabid dog bites, including being injected with an anti-rabies vaccine.
However, in the last few days, symptoms of rabies appeared in Antonia so she was hospitalized until she died. “The information obtained is that the patient does not take medication regularly,” said Robert.
Previously at 03.00 in the morning, a rabies patient who was being treated at the Niki-Niki Health Center, TTS Regency died. The patient who died was named Yoksan Selan, 43, from Niki-Niki Village.
Currently at the same health center, a rabies patient named Manya Elo, 22, is also being treated, also from Niki-Niki Village.
