Rabies Outbreak in Nepal: 11 Deaths Reported at Sukraraj Hospital – Health Authorities Warning

Health authorities of Nepal 11 deaths have been reported rabia at the Sukraraj Infectious and Tropical Diseases hospital since the beginning of the fiscal year 2023-2024.

Incidents related to dog bites have not decreased during this period. It is estimated that around 60,000 dog bite incidents occur in state facilities each year. Mostly children.

It is estimated that about 100 people die from rabies in the country each year. There are only records of deaths that occurred in the Sukraraj Infectious and Tropical Diseases hospital (About 15-36 people/year)

Each vial of rabies vaccine costs around Rs 500 (3 or 4 doses are required) Although the government provides the vaccine for free at its centers
