Jembrana – A resident of Pekutatan Village, Pekutatan District, Jembrana, NPS (53) died. He allegedly died of infection with the rabies virus.
Head of Medical Services and Quality Control at the State General Hospital (RSU), Gusti Ngurah Putu Adnyana explained that on Tuesday morning (30/5/2023) he received referral patients from the Pekutatan 1 Health Center. The patient complained of abdominal pain and high blood pressure.
“Patients receive treatment according to the emergency room protocol,” said Adnyana at the Negara Hospital, Wednesday (31/5/2023).
Adnyana explained that the results of laboratory tests showed that the patient’s heart was beating faster than normal. At 10.00 WITA, symptoms of rabies infection were found.
“This patient has difficulty swallowing water and is starting to get restless as there is a suspicion of an infection in the brain caused by bacteria or viruses, including the suspicion of the rabies virus which has not been removed,” said Adnyana. However, the patient’s family denied that NPS had a history of being bitten by a dog.
Adnyana explained that at 11.09 WITA the patient’s awareness began to decrease. NPS was declared dead at 12.56 WITA.
Previously, Ni Made KM died on Monday (29/5/2023) because he was suspected of being infected with rabies. The six-year-old woman was bitten by a dog last March.
Ni Made was taken to the Klungkung II Health Center so he could receive an anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). However, because it was a pet dog that bit him, the family was asked to monitor the dog for 15 days according to standard operating procedures (SOP).
