The volume of investments of the national office of water and electricity (ONEE) will reach 25 MMDH by 2023, said Tuesday in Rabat, the Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment , Aziz Rabbah.

Answering a central question in the House of Councilors on “The energy and environmental transition at the service of the competitiveness of the national economy Rabbah noted that this volume of investments will meet the needs of the rural world, the development of the transport network and the transition that the distribution sector is supposed to experience.

Rabbah continued that the ministry is working with the Ministry of the Interior for the creation of regional electricity distribution companies, with the possibility of integrating the private sector, while favoring national companies and granting a share of the actions to ONEE and the autonomous water and electricity distribution boards.

After stressing that the electricity system is able to meet the needs of the national economy and citizens, the government official noted that the Kingdom has a surplus of electricity and has started to export, adding the surplus reached 28% last year.

He also stressed that the renewable energy projects previously launched are still in progress, saying that their investment budget has reached 49 billion dirhams in the public and private sectors. A budget of 52 MMDH has been allocated to these investments, he continued, adding that the private sector has reached 27 MMDH of investment, while 400MW has been reserved for it.

Likewise, the Minister indicated that there are legislative texts today on energy efficiency and energy audit, noting that eight licenses have been granted to energy audit companies.

Rabbah also mentioned the modification of the law relating to the self-production of electricity for the benefit of renewable energies, as well as the maintenance of the balance between the private and public sectors in the field.

He thus stressed that several countries in the world aspire to benefit from the Moroccan experience, which, in just 20 years, has been able to offer electric coverage on 99.5% of its territory.
