Rabat: IAV Hassan II will open the work of the 65th World Congress of Agricultural Students

Under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, the International Association of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences (IAAS Morocco) organizes the 65th World Congress of Students in Agriculture and this, from July 24 to August 07, 2022 under the theme: “Water scarcity and its effects on food security”
The opening ceremony of this International Congress which will take place in Rabat, Marrakech and Agadir; will take place at the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute in Rabat on July 25, 2022 under the effective chairmanship of Mohammed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests in the presence of a certain number of scientific personalities and eminent Moroccan officials alongside ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps of member countries of the association accredited in Morocco
This opening ceremony will be marked by a tribute which will be paid to Aziz Akhannouch, the current Head of Government in his capacity as former Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.
It should be noted that the 2022 World Congress (WoCo 22) is an opportunity to discuss a file that has strongly imposed itself during the 21st century linked to the scarcity of water, which constitutes a real threat to resources. natural resources, and which mortgages the future of future generations.
This International Congress of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences will address the issue of water scarcity from different angles, with a number of conferences and workshops on the program, which will lead to the publication of decisions on the orientations of the association, to a vote on the structure of its office and to the approval of its rules of procedure.
It should also be noted that the IAAS, or International Association of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences, is a non-governmental association founded in 1957, and has more than 10,000 members spread over some fifty member countries. Its mission is essentially part of the sharing of knowledge and cultural exchange between peoples.
According to official figures from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, water scarcity currently affects nearly 700 million people in 43 countries. In the very short term, in 2025, there will be 1.8 billion people living in countries or regions with complete water scarcity and two-thirds of the world’s population could be living in alarming conditions of water stress.
In Morocco, it is specified, the problem of water scarcity that we are currently experiencing is mainly caused, according to official data, by the significant drop in water resources due to the low rainfall (drop in 55 percent), as well as a decrease in the volume of snowfall.
