South Korean actress Ra Mi-ran has added another accolade to her extraordinary career, winning the coveted “2024 Female Filmmaker of the Year Award” for her powerful performance in the film, Citizen Deok-hee. The award, presented on December 16th, recognizes outstanding contributions by women in the film industry.
In her acceptance speech, Ra mi-ran expressed her gratitude, reflecting on the evolving landscape of the film industry. “I feel that things are changing little by little from when I first started filming until now,” she shared. “When I think about what that is,I want to express my respect and gratitude to the fact that things are getting better thanks to the hard work of many people,including Yeosang,a filmmaker.”
The award held special significance for the actress. “I won the Female filmmaker of the Year Award for the movie ‘Citizen Deok-hee,’ and actually, I think it was an even greater consolation to me,” she continued. “I feel like people pat me on the shoulder and say, ‘You’re doing well, you’ve done well,’ while I’ve been acting for 20 years, so it’s really meaningful and I’m grateful.”
Looking ahead, Ra Mi-ran expressed her ambition to continue her impactful work. “I want to work hard for the next 20 or 30 more years and produce many, many good works until I can receive the Achievement award,” she stated. “Thank you for giving me hope and courage.”
This award caps off a remarkably busy and successful year for Ra Mi-ran.Her portrayal of Deok-hee, a resilient ordinary citizen in Citizen Deok-hee, resonated deeply with audiences. She followed this with a critically acclaimed performance as Kang so-bok,the director of the Maeranguk Theatre Company,in the tvN drama Jungnyeon.
Beyond her acting roles, Ra Mi-ran charmed viewers as a camping expert and supportive leader in the tvN entertainment show, Europe Outside the Tent – Romantic Italy. Even a special appearance in the JTBC drama Quiet Sales showcased her talent, further solidifying her position as a versatile and sought-after performer. She also appeared in the film It’s been a long time, released on the 25th.
