New York The trial of former pop star R. Kelly, which has been postponed several times, is set to start in New York in August. He has already been convicted from his Chicago prison.
A few months before the currently scheduled start of the trial, the former pop superstar R. Kelly (54) was transferred from a prison in Chicago to New York.

Kelly was brought to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday, US media reported. The prison listed Kelly as an inmate online on Wednesday. Ghislaine Maxwell – former partner of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide in 2019 – is also currently waiting for her trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Kelly had been in prison in Chicago since his 2019 arrest. The trial against the singer in New York, which was originally scheduled for May 2020 and has already been postponed several times in the corona pandemic, is currently scheduled for August. Kelly is charged, among other things, with the sexual abuse of minors – but protests his innocence and has already pleaded not guilty on several occasions. Long indictments have also been filed against Kelly in Chicago and Minnesota.

The musician had repeatedly asked for early release on bail because of the pandemic, but failed each time. Most recently there had been discrepancies and substitutions in his defense team.
