R. Giedraitis, who does not doubt I. Brazdeikis’ capabilities: we really wanted him in Vitoria

The camp of the Lithuanian men’s basketball team started on Monday at the “Vanagupė” hotel in Palanga.

As soon as I saw it Rock Giedraitis man coach Kazys Maksvytis joked: “I invited another Roka, Jokubaitis, not Giedraitis.”

“Good emotions. I’ll have to see if I’m really on the list, if I’ve been assigned a room”, smiled the representative of Vitoria-Gasteiz “Baskonia”, who did not hide in the interview that he wanted to see the third Lithuanian – Igna Brazdeikis – in the Spanish club.

– How was the vacation?

– I worked out and rested, the balance was there. I devoted a lot of time to my family. Those 1.5 months passed like 4 days, but there was enough time.

– Did you need to rest more physically or psychologically?

– Psychologically. 4-5 days is enough for me and physically I am already on my feet.

– What are the hopes for the national team?

– We will set the highest goals. Now the preparation will just start and then we will see how it goes. I haven’t talked to the coach yet.

– How do you imagine your role?

– As many minutes as you want, that’s how it will be. We stay in the national team for 2 months, there is no club basketball here, everything happens differently. If someone is better, he will play. We must forget about personal matters and strive for victories together.

– Do you prefer the position of attacking defender or light winger?

– I feel good both there and there. In Spahia’s schemes, I was more in the corners, and under Ivanović’s leadership, I played more with the ball.

– What do you think about the work of the “Baskonia” team?

– 3-4 players are signed and it’s difficult to say something because I don’t know much about those players because they are young. Everything looks nice in the videos, but we will see how it will be on the pitch.

– Did you participate in the process of luring I. Brazdeikis to Baskonia?

– Since our agency is the same, I kept asking whether it was with us or with “Žalgiris”. As far as I know, Sedekerskis also participated in that process. It is clear that we really wanted Igno in Vitoria, the third Lithuanian would have been there super.

– How do you assess I. Brazdeikis’ chances in the Euroleague?

– As the first time he came to Europe from the USA, he adapted very well to that team game. I don’t see any problems or that something is wrong.
