A traditional meeting point for stayers on the Normandy coast, the Grand Handicap de la Manche (Ref .: +14; +19.5) brought together this year only 4-year-olds and over, the cadets having declined the fight. They were therefore 15 in the ranks of this race disputed over 3,200 meters. Installed favorite, Karlstad did not miss the opportunity to forget his last failure and pin on this occasion a second quinté to his prize list.
Shortly beaten last year in this Grand Handicap de la Manche, Karlstad (6 – Maxime Guyon) had just put an end to a good series of performances on the side of Vichy, however having excuses to make. Climbed a little closer than usual, close to the animators, the offspring of Stormy River attacked in the middle of the track at the middle of the straight line and went off in search of a success full of authority. Already a winner at this level in April 2019, he returned to victory to the delight of Joakim Brandt, one of his coaches: “It’s nice to see him win. Today, he had a track to his liking and it is only deserved for this courageous and very consistent horse. He won really well. “
After galloping on a third line, Port Deauville (4 – Eddy Hardouin) gradually approached at the start of the final turn before coming to the center of the track and prolonging his effort to clearly seize the first runner-up, behind the winner. He confirms that he remains competitive despite the penalty of 3.5 kilos following his last success in Vichy. Top-weight of this event with 62 kilos on the back, Mister Nino (1 – Théo Bachelot) finishes well after having waited halfway to deprive Sarendam (3 – Pierre-Charles Boudot) from third place on the wire. The latter has always galloped at the forefront on the rope side and was very courageous. The arrival is completed by Mdracafeu (12 – Mickaël Barzalona) who long contested third place in the final phase before losing on the edge of the goal. Great animator, Imperial pearl (9 – Cristian Demuro) is finally content to conclude at the gates of the finish.
