Nairo Quintana was hit by a motorist on Friday in a training session in his home country of Colombia. The thirty-year-old rider from Arkéa-Samsic probably did not suffer too many injuries.
Quintana was ridden off his bicycle by a motorist during a training trip on the road from Tunja to Motavita. According to the mayor, the driver made a wrong maneuver, causing Quintana to fall on the asphalt.
Arkéa-Samsic makes statements about the damage at Quintana only at a later stage, but according to various media, he suffers from his knee and multiple abrasions. He was able to get up and sit on a chair before being cared for.
Quintana is preparing for the restart of cycling, which, like almost all other sports, has been halted for a long time due to the corona crisis. In any case, he will participate in the Tour de France, which starts on August 29.
The next two weeks Quintana will have to train in her own country. On July 19, a charter flight will most likely depart from Colombia to Madrid with a large number of Colombian riders on board.
At the beginning of this year, Quintana exchanged Movistar for Arkéa-Samsic. The climber was very successful in the service of the Spanish team, including the overall victory in the Giro d’Italia in 2014 and the Vuelta a España in 2016 and two second places in the Tour in 2013 and 2015.
