Quincy Promes is locked up here while he awaits extradition

De Telegraaf has found out where Quincy Promes is currently detained in Dubai. The fifty-time Orange international is being held at police headquarters, near the airport. A receptionist confirmed this to the newspaper.
Promes seems to be getting away with this somewhat well. Many extradited people end up in the dreaded Al Aweer prison, which has a special department for such detainees. There have been several reports of ‘inhumane conditions’ in Al Aweer prison. For example, people would be denied access to medical care because of their race.

Prisoners also fought for space, former detainee Dinchi Lar told ITV News. “You literally sleep on top of a person. There is no such thing as personal living space.” British Billy Hood, who is serving a ten-year sentence for possession of cannabis oil, said in a call to his family that ‘he had not received a mattress after seven days’.

Humans Rights Watch has already sounded the alarm about detention centers in Dubai, but Promes seems to be getting away from it somewhat. The attacker did not commit a serious crime in the emirate itself.
Promes is being held ‘only’ at the request of the Netherlands, where he was convicted of cocaine trafficking and stabbing his cousin. For this he must serve a prison sentence of seven and a half years in his native country.
Since Wednesday evening, Promes has been awaiting the decision on his extradition in custody. Before that he was ‘just’ under house arrest in Dubai. This was due to his involvement in a car accident, in which he allegedly continued driving after a crash. That is why Promes was stopped at border control at the end of February when he wanted to board a plane back to Russia after a training camp with Spartak Moscow.
Promes can still object to possible extradition. Then a process of ‘weeks or months’ will follow, crime reporter John van den Heuvel recently said in a video item. “It just depends on Promes’s position. If he does not resist extradition, things can happen quickly,” said Van den Heuvel.
