Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he “passed away peacefully” Sunday night at his Bel Air home.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of the passing of our father and brother Quincy Jones. And while this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him “said the family in a statement.

Although he had a fairly successful career, he became very famous by producing Michael Jackson’s album “Thriller” in 1982, which is considered the best-selling album in history, with more than 70 million copies.

During his career, which lasted more than 75 years, he won 28 Grammy Awards and was named one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century by Time magazine.

He was also recognized with nominations and distinctions at the Emmys, the Tonys and the Oscars.

He produced and directed the recording of the 1985 charity album, We Are The World.

To do this, he brought together 46 of the most popular American singers of the time, including Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner and Cyndi Lauper.

Jones co-wrote the song to raise money to help those suffering from a devastating famine in Ethiopia.

In film and television

He also scored more than 50 films and television shows, including Heat of the Night, The Color Purple and The Italian Job.

On the small screen, he was one of the producers behind the hit television show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Early in his career, Jones worked closely with Frank Sinatra and reworked the Sinatra classic Fly Me To The Moon, transforming it from a waltz to a swing.

In the film The Wiz, Jones worked alongside Michael Jackson, who was 19 years old.

For decades they worked together and Jones produced the albums Thriller, Bad and Off the Wall, which sold 20 million copies.

Playwright and actor Jeremy O’Harris noted, on social network X, that Jones’ “contributions to American culture were limitless.” He highlighted that he was the first black person nominated for an Oscar in the best soundtrack category.

Jones was married three times and had seven children, including music producer Quincy Jones III and actress Rashida Jones.
