Quiet Please! There’s the Latest Good News About Omicron

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Good news regarding handling the deployment of the Omicron Variant continues to emerge. This time, a preliminary study suggested that a booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine could counteract the severity of the new variant.

quote Straits Times, there was a meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO), Wednesday (15/12/2021), scientists reported several studies showing that T-cells in vaccinated people can provide a strong defense against the variant.

“The good news is that the T-cell response is largely preserved for Omicron,” said Dr Wendy Burgers of the University of Cape Town.

While this is preliminary research, the scientists add that it is good news that it is a relief in dealing with this variant that originally emerged in South Africa.

Previously news about the efficacy of vaccines and boosters against this variant was also echoed by several other observations. WHO asks people who have not received the vaccine to receive it immediately.

“So the message remains clear: If you’re not vaccinated, get vaccinated and, particularly in the Omicron arena, if you’re fully vaccinated, get your booster shot,” said US infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci.

WHO itself has included Omicron as a “variant of concern” or a variant that is under special attention. The UN agency said it would still conduct further investigations regarding the virus that carries 32 mutations in its spike protein.

Meanwhile, the first death from this virus has been announced. The death occurred in England. Even so, several countries that have conceded this variant that originally developed in Africa said that the majority of Omicron patients showed very mild symptoms.
