Quidditch practitioners change sport’s name in protest against JK Rowling | Movie

Quidditch, also called Quidditch in English, is described in the books as a sport in which you have to throw balls through some hoops while flying on a broomstick. Spectacular on the big screen, slightly less magical on the ground floor. The broomsticks are replaced by a stick that the players have to carry between the legs during the game.

Quidditch players, however, disagree with certain statements Harry Potter author JK Rowling made about transgender people. Even though she invented the sport, Major League Quidditch (organizer of the official Quidditch tournaments) now wants to change its name to distance itself from the writer.

The name Quidditch will be replaced by ‘Quadball’ from now on. “We are convinced that this is the right decision, and we look forward to the future opportunities that Quadball will offer,” it said. “This is an important moment in the history of our sport.”
