A cerebral hemorrhage ended Oliver Glasner’s professional career in 2011. The trainer from Eintracht Frankfurt now spoke about the decisive experience and wants to set an example for his own professionals.

July 31, 2011 should change the life of Oliver Glasner forever. In a header duel, the now 47-year-old suffered a concussion with SV Ried at Rapid Vienna. However, the central defender then traveled to the Europa League duel at Brondby Copenhagen. After the captain complained of a headache after the final training session, he was taken to a Danish hospital. The diagnosis: a subdural hematoma, a cerebral haemorrhage that had to be operated on immediately. Glasner survived the operation, but then ended his professional career. Via SV Ried, LASK and VfL Wolfsburg, I went to the Main as a trainer in the summer.

“Can’t trick the body”

It was over ten years ago and the Eintracht Frankfurt coach remembered ServusTV, where he was a guest at Greuther Fürth after the 2-1 win, and explained: “It’s easy to get back to the hamster wheel. But I try to get myself down when things don’t go well and to tell young people with this life experience that you’d better sometimes skipping a training session or recovering from an injury for a longer period of time.
