«The Austrian businessman Dietrich Mateschitz honestly admits how he earns his money and now shares it with everyone »: Cyber criminals are currently trying to riot their victims with such attractants and para-journalistic tongues.
This emerges from the annual report of the National Center for Cybersecurity (NCSC). The majority of the 2,439 reports received by the agency in the first half of 2021 concern investment phishing.
The fraudsters are increasingly jumping on the hype about cryptocurrencies and promising the blue of the sky: In one case, a profit of 12,000 euros within 72 hours was promised with a stake of 250 euros.
In some cases, the authorities know that a payment is made again after a deposit. “But only to build trust and convince the victims to make larger investments.”
The fraudsters especially like to use names like Roger Federer, DJ Stupid or those of the Red Bull billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz in the mouth. This then comes from para-journalistic: In fictional interviews it is claimed that the celebrities owe their wealth to the crypto currencies.
But that’s not all. If the crooks were successful, they slip into a new role. After a while, they contact their victim again, now as alleged lawyers or law enforcement agencies – with the promise to get the lost money back. A hefty fee is then of course due for the “help”.
The federal cyber authority is even aware of cases where the fraudsters set up improvised websites for the alleged aid organizations in order to gain the victims’ trust.
A victim lost more than one million francs in investment phishing in March 2021.
