The Quick Boys amateurs once again caused a surprise on Tuesday in the TOTO KNVB Cup tournament. After a victory over NAC Breda, they now won 2-0 against De Graafschap, the number four in the Kitchen Champion Division.
Quick Boys won 1-0 against NAC Breda in front of their own crowd at the end of October and on Tuesday a great turnout with fireworks, lights and loud music proved to be another foretaste of a historic evening at Sportpark Nieuw Zuid in Katwijk.
Sem van Duijn emerged as the cup hero of Quick Boys, which is second in the Second Division. Van Duijn was sent into the depth after 28 minutes on the edge of offside and coolly scored the 1-0 behind De Graafschap goalkeeper Thijs Jansen.
After the break, De Graafschap pressed, but it was Van Duijn again who could cheer with the five thousand fans at the sports park. The nineteen-year-old attacker made it 2-0 fifteen minutes before the end by sliding in a cross from the right flank.
The defeat is extra painful for De Graafschap, because captain Jeffry Fortes said after reaching the second round that he hoped for a “shitty amateur club”. He got his way, but in the end the Quick Boys fans had the last laugh.
Quick Boys is the first club to be assured of a place in the last sixteen. The other matches in the second round will take place later on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The draw will take place on Thursday evening immediately after the last match.
