Quick and the Kings close the door to the Oilers

THE ANGELSJonathan Quick made 31 saves for his 10th career Stanley Cup Playoff shutout and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 in Game 4 of their first-round clash at Crypto.com Arena.

Series four of seven is tied 2-2. She travels to Edmonton for game five on Tuesday.

Quick, who posted his first playoff shutout since June 9, 2014 against the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final, became the American goaltender with the most shutouts in the season-ending playoffs. He shared the record with Mike Richter.

Carl Grundstrom scored twice in addition to collecting an assist. Trevor Moore et Troy Stecher both scored a goal and added an assist for the Kings, ranked third in the Pacific Division.

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 45 shots for the Oilers, ranked second in the same Pacific division.

Moore launched the Kings forward at 8:03 of the first period by scoring in an empty cage after a fine backhand pass from Phillip Danault.

Smith lost his balance trying to spear the puck off Danault’s stick and found himself face-first on the ice as Moore netted his second goal of the series.

Stecher made it 2-0 at 14:03 when the Oilers defenseman Duncan Keith deflected a shot from the right circle between Smith’s pads. Acquired from the Detroit Red Wings on March 20, Stecher had not played in the first three meetings of the series.

Quick made two very important saves at the end of the second period. Even though he had lost his mitt, Quick placed himself in front of a shot from the enclave of Kailer Yamamoto at 6:01 p.m. before seeing the puck bounce off the horizontal bar.

He then used his blocker to fend off a hard shot from Evander Kane two seconds later.

Grundstrom scored on a breakaway at 15:07 of the third period to give the team a 3-0 lead. Sliding head first, Grundstrom pushed the puck into the net after the defenseman Darnell Nurse would have tripped him. Grundstrom, who had a hand in Moore’s goal, sat out the final game due to an undisclosed injury. The Oilers challenged the play claiming goalie interference, but video replays confirmed the goal. Edmonton then received a penalty for delaying the game.

Grundstrom completed the scoring in an empty cage at 18:29.
