Queues in front of shops, but sales below expectations – Vienna

The public holiday caused long queues in front of the shops. In retail, however, they are not happy with the sales.

The shopping holiday on Tuesday was marked by long lines in front of shops. But they should not have made the big money, as the trade association reports by broadcast. The first two days of shopping since the reopening of the stationary non-food trade fell “well below the expectations of the retailers”, it is said.

On the day of the Conception of Mary – traditionally one of the busiest days of the year – the customer footfall in the shops until the early afternoon was far lower than forecast. “With the continuation of the day, more volume is noticeable, but in many places we strolled more than we actually bought,” said the trade association.

Lockdown ends – these are the new corona rules!

Dealers hopeto increase sales

Many retailers – especially in the clothing, shoes, building materials trade, watches and jewelry segments – even expect less sales on Tuesday than on Monday. Depending on the product group and region, some have already started sending staff home, others are still hoping for an increase in frequencies and sales in the late afternoon.

“The catering industry is very much lacking in retail, as more targeted purchases are now being made and occasional purchases are being dispensed with due to shorter stays – this is clearly shown by the first two days of shopping since the end of the hard lockdown. This means that the economic situation of local retailers remains tense,” said Trade association manager Rainer Will.
