On September 10, Quetzaltenango will unveil the new National Flower of the Mayan People. With more than 40 candidates in competition, this event is shaping up to be one of the most significant celebrations of Mayan culture in 2023.
After a break in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, the contest resumed its splendor in 2022 and now, in its 18th edition, it promises to be even grander.

Registration and arrival of candidates
On September 8, the Hall of Honor of the Municipality of Quetzaltenango was illuminated by the presence of Mayan representatives from all over the country. Wearing regional costumes and in many cases accompanying their entrance with traditional dances, these young women symbolize the rich heritage of the Mayan communities.
National Flower of the Mayan People, a tradition that perseveres
The National Flower of the Mayan People contest celebrates 18 years of existence, also being a crucial platform to promote and keep the Mayan culture alive in Guatemala.
