Questioning the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Chipset

Senior Manager Business Development Qualcomm Indonesia Dominikus Susanto, explained some of his chipset updates. One of them can connect with cross-generation networks from 2G to the latest 5G.

“Connectivity on the Snapdragon 888 uses the Snapdragon x60- RF System. This is what makes the cellphone (the cellphone using the Snapdragon 888) able to connect to cellular networks of various generations, from 2G to 5G,” Dominikus said in a virtual discussion in Jakarta, Monday (8/8). 3).

With a 5G connection, this chipset can produce a maximum download speed of 7.5 giga bytes per second.

In addition, Dominikus also explained several changes in the performance of the Snapdragon 888 chipset. One of them is in the graphic display section.

He said the graphics used on the chipset use the Qualcomm Adreno 660 GPU which is claimed to be 35 percent faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 865.

According to him, this is to support the latest technology from screens such as OLED which has a variety of technologies. The variety of technologies produced by OLED can be supported by the Snapdragon 888.

Dominikus said that when he created the new technology, his party would not only update the speed, but also consider the efficiency of use on cellphones later.

“When creating a new technology, a new development, the power efficiency will also be considered, so it doesn’t just make it fast but it will be wasteful. Even though the performance increases, the efficiency also increases,” he said.

Many of the updates on the chip have been made by the company from the United States. including supporting High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) technology on the camera which can produce minimal file capacity from the shots.

“This ability to take photos with the same size but smaller file sizes. With HEIF technology, from a photo whose size is 20 mega, it can be 11 mega. So it can save storage too,” he said.

Through this technology, it is claimed to be able to store photo files with minimal storage, even though the capacity and size of the shots are large.

He further said that Snapdragon 888 also supports Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various objects such as the use of AI on cameras, voice command, face and finger detection to the charging system.

Apart from that the Snapdragon 888 also has a series of updates for game users. Namely Quick Touch and Variable Rate Shading to support up to 10 percent speed and display details in the game even though it is in a capacity of 120 fps.
