Queens School Bus Driver Charged with Rape and Kidnapping of Long Island Student 2023

NEW YORK — A Queens school bus driver has been charged for allegedly raping and kidnapping a Valley Stream, Long Island, student who used that route between January and July 2023, the Nassau County District Attorney announced. Anne T. Donnelly.

The accused, Giovanny Campos, 50 years old and from Jamaica, Queens, allegedly committed the rape on the bus and in his apartment in this county.

Campos was arraigned last week before Judge Robert McDonald on charges of second-degree kidnapping, third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sexual act and reckless endangerment.

“School bus drivers are trusted to transport and protect our children, but this defendant allegedly took advantage of and sexually abused a teenage student both on his bus and in his apartment in Queens,” said District Attorney Donnelly. . “This office is committed to prosecuting predators who prey on vulnerable children.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $150,000 cash, $300,000 surety bond and $1.25 million partially secured bond. Campos is due back in court this Tuesday.

If convicted of the main charge, the defendant faces a potential maximum of 25 years in prison.
